Smallville, Isis

Despite the fact that the main plot was incredibly awful, there were several things I liked about this ep:

1. I liked seeing Oliver and Clark working together again. And even more than that, I found myself absolutely LOVING that they worked with Tess. Like Clark, I'm not sure she's 100% trustworthy, but I love that they're giving her the chance, and that it obviously means a lot to her that they trust her.

2. Tess in general rocked in this episode--that final scene with Alexander really made me cry, OMG. I thought it was great, too, that she actually took Cat's motherhood advice about the Peter Pan, and the bit she read was so poignantly apropos. I also really loved how hilarious she found Cat's suggestion that Lois was the Blur.

3.Cat Grant continues to charm the hell out of me. I mean, obviously I oppose her agenda but she's so damn cute I just end up wanting to squish her rather than be angry with her. I love her tenacity and her commitment to her (albeit misguided) principles. In some ways she reminds me of early-seasons Chloe, especially her persistence and her willingness to come up with crazy theories that are almost, but not quite, on the mark. And she is pretty perceptive about some things, like figuring out that Tess was a worried mother (even if Tess isn't admitting it yet).

And I know it is wrong of me, but I laughed and laughed when she stabbed Lois in the hand to attempt to prove she was the Blur.

4. Barring the whole dopey Isis thing, the opening and closing scenes with Lois and Clark rehearsing what they would say, and then finally having the conversation, were COMPLETELY happymaking. Especially when she jumped him. *Happy sigh*

Interestingly, when Clark and Lois stopped rehearsing and said what they wanted to say, I just wanted to pat them on the head and tell them, “Oh boo, that is what you need to say and how to say it.” Still so adorable.

I LOL’d when Tess LOL’d.

And I was all :-o :-o :-o when Cat stabbed Lois with the pen. That must’ve hella hurt.

I hope Cat has more episodes. I really like her she’s a lot like Chloe and Jimmy. And while I rather have those two (because I feel like they were fridged), I really like Cat. She’s so adorably cute.

Well, I'm pretty sure we're not getting AM back until either Feb. sweeps or May--she's only contracted for 5 or 6 eps, right?--but I do love the actress playing Cat. She's really good.

I seem to have liked the same things everyone else liked about this ep!

I laughed too when stabbed Lois hand and then she kept looking t like her blood was gonna sizzle. One of the things I loved about this episode and the one already aired was smart! Clark. We know he is so TPTB why not show more of him!

Cat Grant is adorable and I love her conspiracy theories. She reminded me of Jimmy with her wide eyed exurbance. He should be interacting with Clark/Lois and Grant at the DP. I will never forgive SV for that one.

The last scene with CL was perfection. I was afraid that the show was gonna pull another stunt and let her in on the secret because she had gotten possessed by Isis but it was nice the way TPTB did it in the copy room and non angsty. I approve!

I loved Tess also and apart me will always ship Oliver/Tess. I feel as though she is the one that gott away even if the show has chosen to forget but "life" got in the way. oh well! I am not understanding the whole Tess is the new Chloe theory. I disagree, she is "friendlier" with Clark/Oliver and running watchtower yet they share similar traits and men those 2 characters are completely different but then again that is just my opinion.

I agree, Jimmy got a lousy ending. :-(

I'm not really reading other people's reviews, so I don't know about the "Tess is the new Chloe" theory. I mean, she's exposition gal, yes, but her relationship to the heroes is going to be quite different than Chloe's was.

I agree with all of this. The actual Isis plot was a but o.O, but if I look at it as the catalyst for all the great things that you pointed out: the theme of sacrificing for love which pushed Clark to confess to Lois, the "problem" that brought the team of Tess/Clark/Oliver together, the story that spurred Cat into action...then I can overlook it, lol.

:-) I think most people seem to have liked the same things about this ep--the final scene, of course, but also Cat and Tess.

Agreed, on all counts.

I think where Cat is concerned, a lot of it also has to do with the actor. She's hitting all the right notes.

Yes, she's really doing a fantastic job.

It's like they only had so much in the budget for a good A plot and used it all up on Homecoming. Which, OK, probably worth it, but still. However, I can't dislike this episode like I did Supergirl, for the same points you list here. (Also because we dispensed with the notion that Jor-El is the least bit right about Clark. Good grief.) Although I think I like Cat a bit less than you do, if only because I find her attitude toward superheroes just that annoying. But she is cute.

And I am SO glad that we don't have to drag the whole "Clark doesn't know that Lois knows" thing out throughout the rest of the season. SO glad. Such a relief, and such a great reveal scene. I am terribly amused at Clark, though, for not realizing that Lois was hinting that she already knew at the end, there. Oh, Clark, you always think you hide/lie better than you actually do. *pets*

It wouldn't be Smallville if a great episode wasn't immediately followed be a cheestastic episode.

I probably will start disliking Cat if she remains as a regularly and continues her unnanced hero-hate, but something about that actress makes it impossible for me to dislike her.

Like you, I am EXTREMELY glad they didn't drag the secret reveal out longer. Thank goodness!
