Come to the SV social

"I would like to extend to you an invitation to the pants party. The party with the...with the pants. The party with pants."
"Brick, are you saying there's a party in your pants and I'm invited?" (Anchorman)

No, actually the party is in the comments of this entry! Come and join the fun and meet new people in SV fandom. I would especially like to encourage you quiet folks lurking in the back--even those of you without livejournals of your own--to drop by and introduce yourselves. We're all a pretty friendly bunch here, and we like to make new friends. Fandom is more fun when you get involved and meet people, so why don't you stop by and say hi?

Here's a little mini-questionnaire, almost completely stolen from [livejournal.com profile] svmadelyn's glee week social, in case you need a conversation starter, but feel free to answer as many or as few questions as you are interested in answering:

1. Tell us something about yourself:
2. Likes (characters, ships, genres, TV shows, actors, real life stuff):
3. Dislikes (characters, ships, genres, TV shows, actors, real life stuff) :
4. What got you interested in Smallville?
5. What are your favorite SV episodes?
6. What SV fanfic do you reread most often?
7. Random facts (favorite food, color you wouldn't be caught dead wearing, pets' names, number of pairs of shoes you own, where you would live if you were a billionaire, etc.)

Happy delurking day! Come join the party!

You're welcome! *Smooches back*

p.s. That is a damn cute picture of KK in your icon, there.

You may certainly friend me, though I think Kate might be exaggerating just a wee little bit. *Friends you back*

1. Tell us something about yourself: I've been active in fandom for twelve years now, having cut my teeth on DS9 writing Garak/Bashir.
2. Likes (characters, ships, genres, TV shows, actors, real life stuff): As far as SV goes Lex, Clex, Lexana... are you sensing a pattern here? I also love SGA, especially McShep and even more especially McKay. Shows I enjoy but am not exactly fannish about include Supernatural, House, Greys Anatomy, Desperate Housewives etc. etc. My favourite actors list includes but is not limited to Michael Rosenbaum, David Hewlett, Alexander Siddig and David Bedella. RL stuff? Coffee, chocolate, food, sleeping, TV! *g*
3. Dislikes (characters, ships, genres, TV shows, actors, real life stuff) : SV-wise: Lana (except when she's around Lex), Lois, Clana, Clois. SGA: Sheppard/Weir and Sheppard/Teyla both set my teeth on edge and anything that forces me to think of Carson Beckett and sex in the same breath. Over-hyped comedy shows that just aren't funny (pretty much anything by Ricky Gervais, yes, I am looking at you). RL: noisy, annoying neighbours.
4. What got you interested in Smallville? Lex looking round and saying, "Thanks, Dad."
5. What are your favorite SV episodes? Zero, Heat, Red, Shattered, Asylum, Lexmas.
6. What SV fanfic do you reread most often? Jenn fic, especially Blow Your Mind, Lenore fic, Dolimir fic
7. Random facts (favorite food, color you wouldn't be caught dead wearing, pets' names, number of pairs of shoes you own, where you would live if you were a billionaire, etc.) My favourite food tends to change with my mood. I love purple and wouldn't be caught dead in yellow. I own quite a few pairs of shoes but rarely wear anything but my Ecco boots. I don't think I'd want to live anywhere but here because of the memories.

The show's immense, seldom-realized potential is absolutely fascinating.

So very true.

And I've got to tell you that I love love love Castville. I always get excited when I see updates, and your latest is hilarious.

*Friends you*

Ooh, both of those sound good. And I've never had a problem eating vegetarian in SF--most places have *something* I can eat.

My guess is (though I'm still waiting to hear from my friend) that I won't be able to do the sailing thing, but definitely lunch or dinner.
I'm arriving in the city Saturday afternoon and will leave either Tuesday or Wednesday, depending on my friend's schedule. I'll let you know more tonight.

TMI=Too much information (as in, you didn't need to know that).

[identity profile] norwich36.livejournal.com 2006-05-25 11:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Ok, what with the what now? (I am only slowly catching up with the comments that were posted when I was asleep, and it is 4 in the afternoon! Productivity today=zero, oh well).

Becky met Clark? How did I not know this?

Hugh Laurie BABYSAT you? Damn!

Dude, my only claim to fame is that someone I went to grad school with used to babysat Uma Thurman. Ok, maybe I can count being friends with Dale Peck, but outside the NYC gay literary world I don't think anyone's actually heard of him, except maybe as the critic who said Rick Moody was the worst writer of his generation.

You are both, like, famous! Famous by association. ::Bows in awe::

[identity profile] musexmoirai.livejournal.com 2006-05-25 11:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Wow, you don't like Lana-bashing and you hang out on TWOP? You must have a thick skin!
Heh, not the wisest course of action to take, is it? I usually just read the anti-Lana comments and chuckle if they're funny. For the most part, I refrain from posting stuff about Lana (unless it's about how her role in the Clex dynamic) and try to defend her and Clark when I think the comments have gone to far. But I go in knowing fully well where the bias on the boards lie, so I've only myself to blame if I get upset.

If you think I've got a thick skin, you should be viola1. She posts on TWoP and the AintItCool boards and she adores Lexana. She gushes about them and it's cute.

While I can't say I'll ever love a Lex Luthor as much as I love MR...
MR's great, but the sheer ruthlessness and arrogance of CB's Luthor makes him a more delicious villain. Sorry, Mike. If it's any consolation, your animated Wally West/Flash is my absolute favorite superhero ever.

[identity profile] bop-radar.livejournal.com 2006-05-25 11:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh! Oh! I have a title. Or rather a nickname... the girls at [livejournal.com profile] the_mas gave it to me before they even knew me, and then confessed and I giggled and embraced it and got icons! *points*

It's not long or over important though... but my job title is Senior Editor, so I reckon that passes.

What do I actually do here? I read Clex porn, make animated icons for fun, pop in and out of LJ, and occasionally I actually print things for the customers.
I comment on LJ, surf for icons (obsessive user and squeer about icons, but can't make them to save my life), and occasionally I send things to authors or mark up a page proof or two...

[identity profile] norwich36.livejournal.com 2006-05-25 11:07 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, wow, I really really wish someone would write MR/JG!

[identity profile] bop-radar.livejournal.com 2006-05-25 11:07 pm (UTC)(link)
How is it that *everyone* in the entire world knows how to sing that song? "Mein Hut es hat drei Ecken..." What is WITH that song?

Pointing is good. German's a pretty clear language, you'll probably find you pick up words pretty quickly. Kaffee and Kuche and Bier and Wein and so on are all pretty easy to get. And just say Danke a lot! ;) I'm sure you'll be fine!

[identity profile] bop-radar.livejournal.com 2006-05-25 11:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, I figured it was probably a reread! That's one of favourite reread books! If I have to get over an emotional trauma, leaving me alone with some good hot chocolate, a blankie and I capture the castle will usually take a lot of the sting out of things!

And thank you! But it was a lot less exciting back then... my uncle is an actor and they knew one another. Still, I'm a longterm fan--from his Blackadder days, etc. So it was always my one 'claim to fame' but suddenly it's become a lot more meaningful to a lot more people, with House being such a hit! I'm so glad for him. He's always had a lot of talent, but he's finally got a mature role to play.

[identity profile] norwich36.livejournal.com 2006-05-25 11:11 pm (UTC)(link)
I really like your icon--you're a very good artist!

And I have to agree, ventriloquist dolls are creepy creepy creepy.

[identity profile] bop-radar.livejournal.com 2006-05-25 11:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you!! I always really appreciate your comments and hearing your ideas about the show too--so it's good to get to know you a little better.

[identity profile] bop-radar.livejournal.com 2006-05-25 11:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh yeah! Marathoning the early seasons is a very insane experience. You kind of go a bit manic with it... I'm glad there's a few others around who did it that way, as I think it does change your viewing experience--my take on things is often different to that of fans who have always watched week by week.

[identity profile] norwich36.livejournal.com 2006-05-25 11:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Everyone's allowed to be an aimless screwup until at least 35. (I'm past that expiration date, unfortunately!)

[identity profile] suzycat.livejournal.com 2006-05-25 11:15 pm (UTC)(link)
I think I saw some once, but it was along the lines of "oh, you want TW but you can't have him so you might as well do me, big gay actor that I am" which is not how I see it. I don't actually see TW/MR at all. But the idea of MR having a total actor!crush on JG - which you know he would have - and JG being like the teacher and everything, and his publically stated admiration for MR... it's so obvious to me.

Some years back JG said something in an interview that was along the lines of Michael not being willing to accept certain realities about himself and needing to be pressed into understanding them, and I *think* it was really meant to be a Lionel/Lex thing, but because both JG and MR talk about their characters as if they are themselves, and JG said "Michael" - well, there was a small fannish explosion and I think several people were killed from the gay just right there.

[identity profile] norwich36.livejournal.com 2006-05-25 11:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Season 5 lovers, represent!!

Considering all the bad touching Lionel does to Lex, I'm pretty convinced that JG, at least, thinks Lionel abused Lex.

1. I guess I am rather the lurker. Law graduate (as of this year - well, in july technically) So I haven't had much time to actually write - hopefully the summer will fix that!

2. I READ SLASH!!!
SV: CLex!!!
House: House/Wilson
Buffy: Spike/Xander
The OC: Ryan/Seth
HP: Harry/Ron, Harry/Draco
I read many other fandoms, and watch other shows (such as Will and Grace, QaF, Lois & Clark, Frasier) but these are my slash favs.
Ultimately, my fav actors are of course the main reason behind the CLex - Tom & Mike

3. Dislikes
SV: Lana Lang, Lionel Luthor, Dominic, Jason Teague and mother, The writing of the episodes in the majority after s2.
House: I hated Vogler, and Cameron annoys me - shes the Lana/Marissa of PPTH!
OC: Marissa! I also hated the Grandad
TV show that I always hated was Charmed - always conceived it to be rather a bad (as in no JW) Buffy rip-off

4. What got you interested in Smallville?
My Superman obsession. The blatant slash. The hotness of Tom & Mike.

5. What are your favorite SV episodes?
anything that has CLex slash potential mainly.
off the top of my head; pilot, jitters, ryan, hug, heat, nicodemus, whisper, truth, xray, asylum, transference, shattered

6. What SV fanfic do you reread most often?
stuff by hergerbabe and HJ Jnr

7. Random facts
fav foods: mcdonalds chips, orange aero, mint ice cream
would/could never wear lemon
If I were a billionaire, heck, I just have a house in every interesting country.

[identity profile] bop-radar.livejournal.com 2006-05-25 11:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Indeed! Once you work out that pretty much everyone is happy to squee along with you, there's a lot of fun to be had!

Editing takes a certain type of personality, for sure--more sensitive souls *can* do it, but it wreaks havoc on their stress levels. Me, I'm rather zen about my authors and their crazy quirks... and therein lies my success! Editors can't over-identify! But even so, I have a real sensitivity to others making complete fools of themselves: it hurts my soul. I cringe. So yes, I understand about the 'putting down and walking slowly away' thing too... it's for the best! It's like people. If you're not going to get along, it's best to just walk away...

::Waves at you::

I liked the first couple episodes of Bones, but then I had a stupid meeting scheduled on that night, so I wasn't able to watch most of the season. Thank god for DVDs!

[identity profile] bop-radar.livejournal.com 2006-05-25 11:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Mm. Cool animated icon! And yes, I know... where would I be without it?! Not here, clearly!

[identity profile] bop-radar.livejournal.com 2006-05-25 11:19 pm (UTC)(link)
You was! Most definitely.

[identity profile] norwich36.livejournal.com 2006-05-25 11:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Your art is so amazing--I don't think I ever got around to telling you that on art feedback day.

Oh, and San Francisco is totally the city I would live in if I could afford to!

[identity profile] bop-radar.livejournal.com 2006-05-25 11:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Long is the mot juste. I'm very excited about reading the Bhagavad, but we've got a very long way to go. I may be reading the Big M for the rest of my life! Personally, I have days when I wished we'd picked the Ramayana, but we opted for the one we knew less about. The main obstacle to our reading progress (apart from [livejournal.com profile] supacat not posting! *nudges her*), is that even small segments send me into spasms of laughter. Hysteria, even. I adore it, but it's like 80% cocoa chocolate--I can only eat so much at one time!
