Come to the SV social

"I would like to extend to you an invitation to the pants party. The party with the...with the pants. The party with pants."
"Brick, are you saying there's a party in your pants and I'm invited?" (Anchorman)

No, actually the party is in the comments of this entry! Come and join the fun and meet new people in SV fandom. I would especially like to encourage you quiet folks lurking in the back--even those of you without livejournals of your own--to drop by and introduce yourselves. We're all a pretty friendly bunch here, and we like to make new friends. Fandom is more fun when you get involved and meet people, so why don't you stop by and say hi?

Here's a little mini-questionnaire, almost completely stolen from [livejournal.com profile] svmadelyn's glee week social, in case you need a conversation starter, but feel free to answer as many or as few questions as you are interested in answering:

1. Tell us something about yourself:
2. Likes (characters, ships, genres, TV shows, actors, real life stuff):
3. Dislikes (characters, ships, genres, TV shows, actors, real life stuff) :
4. What got you interested in Smallville?
5. What are your favorite SV episodes?
6. What SV fanfic do you reread most often?
7. Random facts (favorite food, color you wouldn't be caught dead wearing, pets' names, number of pairs of shoes you own, where you would live if you were a billionaire, etc.)

Happy delurking day! Come join the party!

*beams* I totally need more Tom lovers on my flist! Mind if I friend you?

Zod,

You are nothing but a poser! A leather jacket doesn't make you ruler of the galaxy. What kind of world conqueror is afraid of broccoli? I beat you before on Krypton, and I'll do it again!

1. Tell us something about yourself: I'm Smashley and I'm really excited to be at the Smallville Social even though I'm late. Do you like my dress?
2. Likes: Lex. He really bore into my heart, and I have been dreading, dreading his descent into evil since I got into SV because I was sure it would break my heart. Surprisingly, by the end of the season I was cheering for it with a bittersweet sigh. I started out not liking Welling much, but he's really grown on me a lot. I like Clark better this season than I ever have before. I loved Lana when she was the sweet girl next door, but oh ho ho! Not anymore. See below. Rosey is my favorite actor. I have so much respect for him and think he's such a funny person. I wish he would come over and play videogames with me.
3. Dislikes: Recently, Lana. I hate how everything she says is so bitter and accusatory. I suppose it was inevitable that she would turn into such a bitch but it doesn't justify it for me. Now I wish she'd just go away. I hate how she turns Lex into such a sap-- where is my corporate shark who cries for no one? Some of my biggest phobias (we're talking the kind that really dehabilitate someone, not just make them go ew!) are electroshock therapy and other methods of treatment for mental illness that border on torture. It made Shattered/Asylum almost impossible for me to suffer through. As soon as they mentioned ECT I started to get sick, and it made it so much worse that it was Lex. I tried to tough it out through the episode but I didn't make it. I had to get my roommates to tell me what happened.
4. What got you interested in Smallville?: Last summer I saw a rerun of the episode where Whitney's father dies. I watched the funeral scene with Eva Cassidy's 'Time After Time' with Clark in the rain in front of the angel statue and thought it was the most beautiful thing I've ever seen. One year later, we've made it through all the boxed sets DVDs and caught up in time to watch Season 5 along with everyone else! I'm a latecomer to the fandom but it's such a happy thing in my life that I enjoy so much, even when it upsets me.
5. What are your favorite SV episodes?: For me, this is like picking my favorite band or my favorite song... I just can't do it. Different things appeal to me about different episodes and I can find something meritorious in almost everything.
6. What SV fanfic do you reread most often? My favorite stories are Clex stories... I really enjoy almost everything Jenn writes (no surprise), and I could read anything of hers over and over.
7. Random facts: I'm a writer but I've never written fanfiction. I play Lex in an online roleplaying/writing game (http://chandlersmod.greatestjournal.com) at greatestjournal.com but I'm having a lot of trouble keeping things moving so I'm not sure how long it'll last. My license plate on my car says LX LTHR, I just got it this month. I have a few SV fans on my flist that I love to read, but I can always use more! I also love fanfic recommendations...please tell me who you think are on the 'required reading list' for SV fanfic. My favorite authors are Jenn, Thamiris, and Fajrdrako.

Nice to meet everyone!

1. Tell us something about yourself:
I’m a 40 year old Real Estate secretary and I’m single. I’m pretty shy so I don’t usually step out and do things like this but I thought it might be fun.
2. Likes (characters, ships, genres, TV shows, actors, real life stuff):
I love Tom Welling and Erica Durance as Clark and Lois. I ship Clois but I’m perfectly happy just seeing them progress their friendship along. I want to see them develop that bond that will one day make them soul mates but not lose all the snaky attitude because that‘s what makes them so fun to watch. Former fandoms include Harry Potter and the X Files. I love anything Disney, especially Winnie the Pooh. Disney World is my favorite vacation spot. I’ve been 8 times.
3. Dislikes (characters, ships, genres, TV shows, actors, real life stuff) :
Not a big Lana fan, especially with what they have done with her character lately. But I think she and Lex work in an odd sort of way. I hate rude people and people who think their way is the only way and won’t concede a point to save their lives.
4. What got you interested in Smallville?
I happened to see the commercial for the Smallville marathon on ABC family at the beginning of the fourth season. I was making cards that Saturday afternoon so I sat down in front of the television to watch the pilot and was hooked by the time Jonathan told Clark his parents weren’t from around here. I didn’t budge the rest of the day and went out and bought season 1 & 2 DVDs that next week.
5. What are your favorite SV episodes?
Pilot, Red, Ryan, Exile, Memoria, Crusade, Transference, Commencement, Reckoning
6. What SV fanfic do you reread most often?
I’ve never read any fan fic twice. There is so much out there to read I haven’t even gotten to all that I want to read for the first time.
7. Random facts (favorite food, color you wouldn't be caught dead wearing, pets' names, number of pairs of shoes you own, where you would live if you were a billionaire, etc.)
I have a cat named Midnight who thinks he rules my universe. Purple is my favorite color. I love to read, romance or mystery, doesn’t matter as long as it is well written. I like to write when time and the muse allows it. I love Italian food and chocolate. I live for chocolate.

Yes! That's it exactly! I'm shallow like that! No attention span if there is no nakedness...and...other stuff!

You may have to fight others for the honor of being my biggest fan. Which is how it should be.

Yay! HP recs! *dances* Woot!

Although I really liked the first three seasons, I think adding Lois in season 4 added a spark the show was missing, an element of fun. Lois brings out the fun side of Clark and allows Tom to do a bit of comedy which he is very good at and Tom and Erica have great chemistry.

I like Chloe but I do think she has been used more as plot device than an actual character this last season and I have *ahem* problems with a certain theory people believe about her.

[identity profile] serrico.livejournal.com 2006-05-27 03:28 am (UTC)(link)
I provide what I can. Even if that's only links to much more entertaining people. *g*
ext_3369: (Chloe is evil)

[identity profile] radioreverie.livejournal.com 2006-05-27 03:32 am (UTC)(link)
Heh, I have, um, problems with that theory too.

But yeah, I think Lois brought out a different side of the show. It's nice to have a character around who doesn't want to kiss Clark's boots and has a less emotionally invested approach to everything that's happening around her.

[identity profile] serrico.livejournal.com 2006-05-27 03:33 am (UTC)(link)
Ah, the icon...that picture was pretty much the sole redeeming part of 'Fragile' for me. (Well, and Callum Keith Rennie was good. As per usual.) Thanks!

Taken on a purely visual level, SV's almost *freakishly* deep; I think it's one of the few shows in which you can turn off the sound and get a lush, engaging story. (Also: PRETTY.)

[identity profile] serrico.livejournal.com 2006-05-27 03:36 am (UTC)(link)
Ooh, you *must* give Profit a try! For the basics--and a few reasons why checking out the DVD set is a *fantastic* idea--go here (http://www.fanfic101.com/serrico/profitreview.htm). Basically, if you like BSG, I think you'll like Profit.

Muahahahahahahaaaaa!!! Ahem. *g*

[identity profile] serrico.livejournal.com 2006-05-27 03:41 am (UTC)(link)
Yay Canada, indeed!

I think part of the problem stems from all those tie-ins the show had in the first couple of seasons: between the Ledger/Torch websites and the comic book, and how they could cobble together some "closure" through the articles and storylines in those formats, the writers didn't *have to* end each episode with every plot thread tied up satisfactorily. I think they got used to that, and got lazy, and now...here we are.

Of course, a larger part of the problem is the fact that, apparently, every single SV writer flunked Higher Reasoning. I guess they're just lucky they've got such a *very* pretty cast. :)

[identity profile] serenography.livejournal.com 2006-05-27 04:13 am (UTC)(link)
I'd be flattered. I'm a bit friend-challenged anyway. :)
Warning though.. I really don't post very often, but the more Tom-worshippers the better, I always say.

[identity profile] serenography.livejournal.com 2006-05-27 04:16 am (UTC)(link)
Just saw that I missed you at this wonderful party! *hugs*
You're another one of the key people that I stay on LJ for.
And don't you DARE move to Vancouver without me.

Re: Yay, party!

[identity profile] serenography.livejournal.com 2006-05-27 04:19 am (UTC)(link)
If I was a billionaire, I'd read and write slash all day long.
That almost makes me want you to become a billionaire more than me. Almost. :p

[identity profile] mkitty3.livejournal.com 2006-05-27 04:19 am (UTC)(link)
And don't you DARE move to Vancouver without me.

Let's totally move together! We'll leave it all behind and just stalk the Welling;) Your icon totally makes me want to hop on the plane right now!! Slurp!

[identity profile] serenography.livejournal.com 2006-05-27 04:21 am (UTC)(link)
Well I already have you friended, but if I didn't, I'd friend you now. The more Tom the better, right? Gosh, if only that man knew the effect he has on us normally sane women!

[identity profile] serenography.livejournal.com 2006-05-27 04:24 am (UTC)(link)
mental respite - perfect description! As always, you have a marvelous way with words my friend.

You really are one of the nicest people I've met in SV fandom. Just thought I'd let you know that. *hugs*

Oh, and I love your taste in men. :D

[identity profile] serenography.livejournal.com 2006-05-27 04:26 am (UTC)(link)
The fun thing about these parties is meeting new and interesting people.. that share some common interest. I'd like to friend you, I hope that's okay. I have very few friends, but I'm going for quality and not quantity. ;D

[identity profile] serenography.livejournal.com 2006-05-27 04:34 am (UTC)(link)
I'm really glad to have you on my short, but wonderful f-list. You have such a charming personality. My daughter is a dancer and it's nice to know that someone on my list appreciates dance. Although, after 13 years of training in all forms of dance, including ballet, she now wants to try out for a well-known Hip-Hop only company. Oy! The battle is not over yet.
