Come to the SV social

"I would like to extend to you an invitation to the pants party. The party with the...with the pants. The party with pants."
"Brick, are you saying there's a party in your pants and I'm invited?" (Anchorman)

No, actually the party is in the comments of this entry! Come and join the fun and meet new people in SV fandom. I would especially like to encourage you quiet folks lurking in the back--even those of you without livejournals of your own--to drop by and introduce yourselves. We're all a pretty friendly bunch here, and we like to make new friends. Fandom is more fun when you get involved and meet people, so why don't you stop by and say hi?

Here's a little mini-questionnaire, almost completely stolen from [livejournal.com profile] svmadelyn's glee week social, in case you need a conversation starter, but feel free to answer as many or as few questions as you are interested in answering:

1. Tell us something about yourself:
2. Likes (characters, ships, genres, TV shows, actors, real life stuff):
3. Dislikes (characters, ships, genres, TV shows, actors, real life stuff) :
4. What got you interested in Smallville?
5. What are your favorite SV episodes?
6. What SV fanfic do you reread most often?
7. Random facts (favorite food, color you wouldn't be caught dead wearing, pets' names, number of pairs of shoes you own, where you would live if you were a billionaire, etc.)

Happy delurking day! Come join the party!

1. Tell us something about yourself: I am a stay at home mom in her forties with 2 adorable children, 9 and 5. My husband and I have been married 15 years, but have been together since 1983. I'm computer stupid for the most part (so this post won't be pretty with bold and italics), but I know how to read and love LJ for all the interesting posts from my friends and fanfictions from the incredible writers.

2. Likes (characters, ships, genres, TV shows, actors, real life stuff): I'm an obsessive Smallville/Tom Welling/Clark Kent/Clex lady. I love them all! I also love to write, but rarely can find the time when my brain isn't half eaten by the nonsense of real life. Reading fanfictions has become a wonderful pasttime.

3. Dislikes (characters, ships, genres, TV shows, actors, real life stuff) : I dislike rude behavior of any sort.

4. What got you interested in Smallville? The tv spot advertising the pilot episode with a gorgeous, half naked man moaning "Help me." That kinda started a whirlwind of dirty thoughts.

5. What are your favorite SV episodes? Pilot, Rosetta, Exile, Phoenix, Memoria, Transference, Commencement, Hidden, Splinter, Reckoning (and I'll just go ahead and admit it...I love Spell for the naughty visuals).

6. What SV fanfic do you reread most often? (WARNING: This post will be lacking linkage!) Kal's Girl/Eletryxx's "Beauty", Shaman's "Devil's Due" and "Into the Green", Rhiannonhero's "Seven Hurricane", Paperbkryter's "Golgatha" (Are you noticing a theme yet?) :)

7. Random facts (favorite food, color you wouldn't be caught dead wearing, pets' names, number of pairs of shoes you own, where you would live if you were a billionaire, etc.) My family loves animals. We have an Australian Terrier, 2 years old, named Charlie and also 2 cats, Kisses (very beautiful) and Tig (hugely fat). We live behind a natural park and take daily walks there to see the wildlife...deer, snapping turtles, foxes, blue herrins, various snakes, rabbits, fish galore, hawks, etc.

8. Thoughts of my own: I am not very active on LJ. I wish I had the time to write more and post more so that I could get to know everyone better. But, I just want tell all of you how much I appreciate you. LJ has in many ways been my mental savior. I love my family and I love my children, but I crave something of my own as well, and my friends on LJ have provided me with that mental respite necessary to keep me feeling happy and fulfilled. So kisses to you all! :)

I'm so glad you've posted this!

Many more people should know how amazing you are. :)

Awww! That's a very sweet thing to say.

BTW, I got your pm regarding this weekend. I'll keep my fingers crossed that all goes well. Please let me know. xx

Oh, it's great to see you posting here! *waves*

And look! I learnt a little more about you--I didn't know you had so many animals! I grew up with an Australian terrier--she lived until I was 22 and was my soul companion in childhood. They are a wonderful breed. And living near a nature park sounds great--I've recently reconnected with my childhood love of animals (I wanted to be a zoologist when I grew up!), and I'm making a special effort to have 'animal time' in my life.

I wish I had the time to write more and post more so that I could get to know everyone better. But, I just want tell all of you how much I appreciate you
I know how you feel! I never feel I have enough time on LJ ... and I do appreciate everyone so. The RL/LJ balance can be a tricky one, but it certainly is lovely to have this 'home away from home' here. *g*

I really appreciate you took the time to respond today. I fear I am late for the party again, but it was a nice thrill to see 2 responses to my post this morning.

My dog is so loyal and protective of his family. He truly loves 'his people' very much. However, any newcomers walking by us or visiting our house have to earn his respect. He is not quite open minded to children either (except mine, of course). We still love him a great deal, however.

Regarding LJ, I feel like an outsider looking in most of the time. My circumstances won't allow me to be more than a casual participator over here and because of that, I never quite feel settled in. But that doesn't take from the enjoyment I have reading everyone's posts, stories, metas, and looking at the wonderful manips.

Thank you again for taking the time to respond.

I'm usually the one late to the party! I think one of the great things about LJ is that you can enjoy it at whatever level of participation you choose.

Your dog sounds lovely--mine was a bit more gregarious--she loved to flirt with strangers, but then she could be a little TOO trusting. I remember my younger second cousins chasing her and pulling her tail and she was so shocked! So I don't blame your dog for his wariness. They are such good companions.

This is my second dog that I've owned in my entire life. The last one we had was an Austrailian Silky Terrier. Gorgeous dog, and very much our first "child". Charlie, our second dog, has weedled himself into our hearts in record timing! I appreciate dogs now for many reasons, one of which is getting me outside to walk three times a day whereas normally my lazy butt would be sitting inside getting quite large. I need an "excuse" to get out of the house, more often than not, and because of my Charlie, I now have seen so many lovely things in our natural park behind our house that otherwise may have gone unnoticed. Animals really hold people together sometimes.

Ohhh yes! I look forward to the day when I have a dog again, and that's one of the main reasons--to me, even though it's not really true, it's easy to think of walking as 'boring' without a dog. But *with* a dog, it's great! And I think I would walk a lot more if I had one. Unfortunately I just need to work out how to fit a dog into a townhouse and then find one that gets along with a cat!

Hi!!! I'm so glad you made it! *G* Even though you don't post in your LJ often, it's always wonderful to see you pop in my, or my friends', LJs. You are just the nicest!

Tom Welling. *blissful sigh* So, so pretty.

Your post brought a smile to my face. I don't know how to thank you enough for such a lovely compliment. :)

We live behind a natural park and take daily walks there to see the wildlife...deer, snapping turtles, foxes, blue herrins, various snakes, rabbits, fish galore, hawks, etc.

That sounds nice. I grew up out in the middle of nowhere, and now I'm living more urban. It has its positive aspects that I love, but I also miss just being able to wander out of my house and all around in the woods.

My family and I moved out here to Virginia from southern California 5 years ago. Back there, we used to live within walking distance to the beach. It was a haven that I thought was irreplaceable. And yet, here I am 5 years later thanking my lucky stars to be close to this woodsy nature park. I guess I consider myself fortunate to have had the opportunity to live nearby two incredible places.

Thanks for coming to the party! I'm glad you could make it.

As I mentioned to you in another post, thank YOU for organizing this wonderful event. It came at a time where I felt invisible and I certainly appreciate these touches from friends to tell me otherwise.

mental respite - perfect description! As always, you have a marvelous way with words my friend.

You really are one of the nicest people I've met in SV fandom. Just thought I'd let you know that. *hugs*

Oh, and I love your taste in men. :D

[identity profile] rumpuso.livejournal.com 2006-05-27 10:03 am (UTC)(link)
You know what? *I* love my taste in men too!! Tall, dark and OMG. A perfect trio in a man.

Seriously though Rene, thank you for taking a minute to stop here. I'm being pulled in so many directions at once lately that I feel a little lost and disconnected. Yet, when you showed up, it grounded me...my friend. Thank you!
