Come to the SV social

"I would like to extend to you an invitation to the pants party. The party with the...with the pants. The party with pants."
"Brick, are you saying there's a party in your pants and I'm invited?" (Anchorman)

No, actually the party is in the comments of this entry! Come and join the fun and meet new people in SV fandom. I would especially like to encourage you quiet folks lurking in the back--even those of you without livejournals of your own--to drop by and introduce yourselves. We're all a pretty friendly bunch here, and we like to make new friends. Fandom is more fun when you get involved and meet people, so why don't you stop by and say hi?

Here's a little mini-questionnaire, almost completely stolen from [livejournal.com profile] svmadelyn's glee week social, in case you need a conversation starter, but feel free to answer as many or as few questions as you are interested in answering:

1. Tell us something about yourself:
2. Likes (characters, ships, genres, TV shows, actors, real life stuff):
3. Dislikes (characters, ships, genres, TV shows, actors, real life stuff) :
4. What got you interested in Smallville?
5. What are your favorite SV episodes?
6. What SV fanfic do you reread most often?
7. Random facts (favorite food, color you wouldn't be caught dead wearing, pets' names, number of pairs of shoes you own, where you would live if you were a billionaire, etc.)

Happy delurking day! Come join the party!

1. Tell us something about yourself: My name is Melissa. I'm a 22 year old slacker from somewhere around Chicago. I've seen Radiohead live 51 times.

2. Likes (characters, ships, genres, TV shows, actors, real life stuff): On Smallville, my first love is Clark and my second is Lois. In some universes I'd be called a shipper, but I'm not too hardcore about it. I'm pretty happy go lucky about these kinds of things. I'm also somewhat fandom-y about Veronica Mars and all the Whedonverse shows. And currently, I'm also watching Grey's Anatomy, House, and Supernatural. Outside television, I'm a huge Radiohead fan. That's my first love and it trumps everything else, pretty much. And I'm also heavily into 'avant garde' music, literature, art, film, etc. Outside of television, I'm a bit of a pretentious snob, really.

3. Dislikes (characters, ships, genres, TV shows, actors, real life stuff): Well, I really have a lot of issues with Chloe Sullivan as a character that most people do not seem to share, and I think Allison Mack is a terrible actress. Generally, I dislike a lot of things. Or so I'm told. I prefer to think of myself as selective. ;P

4. What got you interested in Smallville? Heh, well... The first episode I ever watched was Cool, and it was because one of the Radiohead news sites posted that there would be a Radiohead-related subplot in the episode. I didn't stick around, though. I hated the show and didn't start watching it again until S3, when it was on before Angel. Still hated it and found it to be laughably bad, but when Angel was cancelled I had to find some other show to obsess about. Guess Smallville drew the short straw. However, when S4 finally started airing, I was surprised to find myself actually enjoying the show. The difference? Lois Lane. I really liked her and what she brought to the show. Also? Tom Welling looks vaguely like Jonny Greenwood (see icon) of Radiohead, and that's as good a reason as any to watch.

5. What are your favorite SV episodes? I really thought Reckoning was visually stunning and well-done. I loved Splinter and its attempt at Hitchcock-esque paranoia. Pariah was deeply flawed, but interesting on a number of levels.

6. What SV fanfic do you reread most often? Icarus of Plastic (http://smallville.slashdom.com/archive/17/icarusof.html) by Penelope Z., and Everlast (http://www.teresakay.us/fiction/index.php?page=smallville/r/everlast.php) by Teresa Kay.

7. Random facts (favorite food, color you wouldn't be caught dead wearing, pets' names, number of pairs of shoes you own, where you would live if you were a billionaire, etc.) I can't live without sushi. I'm allergic to celery. I play the piano rather badly. I've made approximately two ill-advised attempts at SV fanfic. I only drink Coke when there's whiskey involved. I'm Mexican and Polish, but I speak neither Spanish nor Polish.

Sushi really is one of the best foods ever created:)

I prefer to think of myself as selective. ;P

Hee! Yes, that's the way to look at it!

Thanks for coming to the party! And thanks for the fic recs--I don't think I've read "Everlast" before.

Ooh, Everlast is truly excellent. I hope you enjoy it!

Oh, it was fantastic and heartbreaking! Thanks so much for recommending it!

Although I really liked the first three seasons, I think adding Lois in season 4 added a spark the show was missing, an element of fun. Lois brings out the fun side of Clark and allows Tom to do a bit of comedy which he is very good at and Tom and Erica have great chemistry.

I like Chloe but I do think she has been used more as plot device than an actual character this last season and I have *ahem* problems with a certain theory people believe about her.

Heh, I have, um, problems with that theory too.

But yeah, I think Lois brought out a different side of the show. It's nice to have a character around who doesn't want to kiss Clark's boots and has a less emotionally invested approach to everything that's happening around her.

The fun thing about these parties is meeting new and interesting people.. that share some common interest. I'd like to friend you, I hope that's okay. I have very few friends, but I'm going for quality and not quantity. ;D
