Come to the SV social

"I would like to extend to you an invitation to the pants party. The party with the...with the pants. The party with pants."
"Brick, are you saying there's a party in your pants and I'm invited?" (Anchorman)

No, actually the party is in the comments of this entry! Come and join the fun and meet new people in SV fandom. I would especially like to encourage you quiet folks lurking in the back--even those of you without livejournals of your own--to drop by and introduce yourselves. We're all a pretty friendly bunch here, and we like to make new friends. Fandom is more fun when you get involved and meet people, so why don't you stop by and say hi?

Here's a little mini-questionnaire, almost completely stolen from [livejournal.com profile] svmadelyn's glee week social, in case you need a conversation starter, but feel free to answer as many or as few questions as you are interested in answering:

1. Tell us something about yourself:
2. Likes (characters, ships, genres, TV shows, actors, real life stuff):
3. Dislikes (characters, ships, genres, TV shows, actors, real life stuff) :
4. What got you interested in Smallville?
5. What are your favorite SV episodes?
6. What SV fanfic do you reread most often?
7. Random facts (favorite food, color you wouldn't be caught dead wearing, pets' names, number of pairs of shoes you own, where you would live if you were a billionaire, etc.)

Happy delurking day! Come join the party!

1. Tell us something about yourself: I'm 28, an editor, an Australian (Melbourne) and an SV fan (duh!)
2. Likes (characters, ships, genres, TV shows, actors, real life stuff): Smallville, Clex/Clois/Lexana, MR and TW (of course!) Battlestar Galactica, House, BtVS, AtS and many a show before then... I have loved fannish shows for a long time without being in fandom. It was SV that broke me--less than a year ago (wow!? has it only been a year?), when I took a week off work to *ahem* watch all four seasons then in existence. Other likes: food, good-quality chocolate, books, films, martial arts, dogs (and other animals), history (my major at uni), pastries with raspberries in them. Oh. And Johnny Depp. *g*
3. Dislikes (characters, ships, genres, TV shows, actors, real life stuff) : I really don't dislike any characters--I'm too intrigued by the construction of SV to dislike *anyone*, though I had my Lana-hating days... I hate few things but among them are DH Lawrence, the movie 'signs', crap doctors, negativity in fandom, my timezone and prejudiced behaviour anywhere.
4. What got you interested in Smallville? What?! *chortles* [livejournal.com profile] supacat
5. What are your favorite SV episodes? Shattered and Asylum, but I also love Heat and Red and Reckoning and Devoted and ... oh so many!
6. What SV fanfic do you reread most often? Not much of a fanfic rereader, but I reread [livejournal.com profile] rivkat's humourous fics when I need cheering--Hideaway, and An Englishman... and Switch.
7. Random facts (favorite food, color you wouldn't be caught dead wearing, pets' names, number of pairs of shoes you own, where you would live if you were a billionaire, etc.) Favourite colour is yellow, my cat is named after the (rather slashy) twin brother Corin from CSLewis's The Horse and his Boy, my first word was 'book', one day I want to own a Bernese mountain dog, I'm a lapsed first dan in tae-kwon do, having turned to belly dancing instead, I'm currently crawling through the Mahabharata with my friend [livejournal.com profile] supacat (you can track our progress here: [livejournal.com profile] mahabarata) and I NEVER get enough time on LJ to do half the things I want to!

We watched a number of your favourite eps when you were in London didn't we! *congratulates us*

I forgot to mention Buffy in my little bit. That is and will remain my all time ever favourite television show. Nothing else could ever compare. *pines*

[identity profile] bop-radar.livejournal.com 2006-05-25 12:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, we did! And yes, I still miss the old Buffy heydays! It was a defining show for me, and always will be.

Boppy!

I can't beleive how little time i've been in fandom because I have so many great friends and like *memories* and things. I'm going to try superhard on 'encourage a lurker' day because only the first step is hard and then once you are in everyone is super nice and cool. I'm very passionate about it.

[identity profile] bop-radar.livejournal.com 2006-05-25 12:46 pm (UTC)(link)
I know! It's incredible, right? I'm going to try superhard on 'encourage a lurker' day too. Except I have to sleep in the middle of it... *swats timezone for the 1000th time*

Mmm, Johnny Depp.
Ewww DH Lawrence. I remember reading something of his in high school, and it was deadly.

[identity profile] bop-radar.livejournal.com 2006-05-25 12:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Dude, DHL is SO DEADLY! I was tortured with Lady Chatterley's Lover in my first-year uni Modern Literature course. If I had to choose one book in all the world to burn, it would be that over-hyped piece of misogynist syphillis-enduced incoherent ranting!

[identity profile] myownghost.livejournal.com 2006-05-25 12:55 pm (UTC)(link)
i like [livejournal.com profile] rivakt's stories, too. Switch is great fun. there's one where clark becomes a woman for a while (Skin Deep) that gives the unique opportunity to read Clex as a het pairing. i don't usually read het, but i made an exception for that. *g*

[identity profile] bop-radar.livejournal.com 2006-05-25 01:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, yes, I totally made an exception for that too! Clark-as-a-girl is definitely one of my kinks it seems.

Genderswitch is great. And there are actually multiple het-Clex AUs that I've seen.

Very very nice to meet you;D, though I've been a fan of your reviews, meta, whatever you like to call them for a long while now. And nice to see we have a few things in common:)

[identity profile] bop-radar.livejournal.com 2006-05-25 11:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you!! I always really appreciate your comments and hearing your ideas about the show too--so it's good to get to know you a little better.

[identity profile] mailerose.livejournal.com 2006-05-25 03:07 pm (UTC)(link)
SV broke me less than a year ago too. I started getting into it sometime during the hiatus between seasons 4 and 5. I spent most of the summer and fall catching up on the earlier seasons. It was insanity, but it was fun.

[identity profile] bop-radar.livejournal.com 2006-05-25 11:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh yeah! Marathoning the early seasons is a very insane experience. You kind of go a bit manic with it... I'm glad there's a few others around who did it that way, as I think it does change your viewing experience--my take on things is often different to that of fans who have always watched week by week.

I'm currently re-crawling through various Upanishads, with the Bhagavad-gita soon to come. I really do like Arjuna, though. The whole Mahabharata is... long. Good for you. I only made it part-way through the Ramayana, too, though maybe I'll wrap that up one day.

[identity profile] bop-radar.livejournal.com 2006-05-25 11:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Long is the mot juste. I'm very excited about reading the Bhagavad, but we've got a very long way to go. I may be reading the Big M for the rest of my life! Personally, I have days when I wished we'd picked the Ramayana, but we opted for the one we knew less about. The main obstacle to our reading progress (apart from [livejournal.com profile] supacat not posting! *nudges her*), is that even small segments send me into spasms of laughter. Hysteria, even. I adore it, but it's like 80% cocoa chocolate--I can only eat so much at one time!

If you like chocolate, what about brownies with raspberries? One cup raspberries per package or brownie mix. Optional, extra chocolate chips.

Wow, all four seasons in a week? Damn. As Clark might say, that's intense. I had a binge in January where I watched I think a season and a half in one week, but -- damn. You totally win. Did you have Smallville dreams all that week?
