norwich36: (Jump in join the party)

Come to the SV social

"I would like to extend to you an invitation to the pants party. The party with the...with the pants. The party with pants."
"Brick, are you saying there's a party in your pants and I'm invited?" (Anchorman)

No, actually the party is in the comments of this entry! Come and join the fun and meet new people in SV fandom. I would especially like to encourage you quiet folks lurking in the back--even those of you without livejournals of your own--to drop by and introduce yourselves. We're all a pretty friendly bunch here, and we like to make new friends. Fandom is more fun when you get involved and meet people, so why don't you stop by and say hi?

Here's a little mini-questionnaire, almost completely stolen from [livejournal.com profile] svmadelyn's glee week social, in case you need a conversation starter, but feel free to answer as many or as few questions as you are interested in answering:

1. Tell us something about yourself:
2. Likes (characters, ships, genres, TV shows, actors, real life stuff):
3. Dislikes (characters, ships, genres, TV shows, actors, real life stuff) :
4. What got you interested in Smallville?
5. What are your favorite SV episodes?
6. What SV fanfic do you reread most often?
7. Random facts (favorite food, color you wouldn't be caught dead wearing, pets' names, number of pairs of shoes you own, where you would live if you were a billionaire, etc.)

Happy delurking day! Come join the party!

So I guess I will get the party started:

1. Me: I'm a former lurker (of something like 5 years in SV, much longer in other fandoms, though I was a little active in Highlander in the late 90s) who has been active in fandom for about 9 months. I'm 37, I live in California, and I'm single.
2. Likes : I love Lex, Chloe, and Lionel, and I like pretty much every other character on SV. I'm primarily a Clex person but I read pretty much every pairing that has ever been written. I'm polyfannish, historically (Trek, X-files, Buffy, Highlander, SW:TPM), and currently mostly focused on SV, though I flirt with Veronica Mars and Battlestar Galactica on the side.
3. Dislikes: Stories that are written just to character bash. Unkindness.
4. What got you interested in Smallville? Te's fiction
5. Favorite episodes : the Pilot, Jitters, Memoria, Lexmas, Splinter, Solitude, Mercy
6. SV story I reread most often? RivkaT's "Skin Deep"; Lenore's "Taken"
7. Random facts: I've been a vegetarian for 18 years. I've never owned a car. I wouldn't "go Luthor" even for the chance to sleep with Lex.

[identity profile] clari-clyde.livejournal.com 2006-05-25 08:13 am (UTC)(link)
  1. Tell us something about yourself:
My fave video/computer game story of all time: Bungie’s Marathon.
  2. Likes (characters, ships, genres, TV shows, actors, real life stuff):
Veronica Mars, Battlestar Galactica, Madonna, Smallville’s Lois Lane and Lana Lang.
  3. Dislikes (characters, ships, genres, TV shows, actors, real life stuff):
Horror movies. Mostly irritated at how the studios think gore = scary when um no, scary = what’s unknown.
  4. What got you interested in Smallville?
I stumbled onto some hot Clex story about a limo ride and decided to find out what the story was about. :-p
  5. What are your favorite SV episodes?
Memoria, Reckoning, Hourglass, Rogue, Hug, Leech, Hidden, Splinter.
  6. What SV story do you reread most often?
    As in fanfic?
  7. Random facts (favorite food, color you wouldn't be caught dead wearing, pets' names, number of pairs of shoes you own, where you would live if you were a billionaire, etc.)
Well, I like pink and food. I love the standard fare of chinese, japanese, french and italian. But also, I really like Himalayan food and Vietnamese pho. I like to move and bop about so listen to dance music (http://www.energy927fm.com) a lot. If I could own pets, I’d own bengal cats and pomerian or whippet dogs. If money weren’t an option, hm… I’d buy lots rental properties with a portfolio diversified around the world to have a (relatively) steady source of income. But mostly, I wouldn’t settle down in one place for the next ten years but live a jet-setting life between San Francisco, San Diego, Boston plus lots of places in Europe.

I can play anyway right?

Me: I'm pretty awesome and happy. Except when i'm mad, but i'm usually mad in such an adorable way that i'm still cute. I also think very highly of myself, but how could I not, yknow, with me being awesome and all.
2. Likes: the word 'awesome' also 'dude' and 'for sure'. Fannishly I like Clex to read, my favourite shows are House and then Prison Break (Smalllville has its own category and doesn't count). An honourable mention goes to Veronica Mars, which I beleive is the only show in history where my favourite character is the main character. I miss Angel very much and can often be found hugging my DVD's and crying about Wes.
3. Dislikes: Ooooh, I really don't like a lot of things. People mostly, but that kind of fascinating dislike that means I almost like them a little too. And lies, I hate lies.
4. What got you interested in Smallville? the show? It was just on one day and I flipped out because Lex was doing Clark's tie and they weren't enemies. I wanted to know how it ended! I have such a love for two friends breaking up and heartbreaking stories of epic love (of any kind) being destroyed by deceit or betrayal or even just the passage of time. It was like the perfect show for me.
5. Favorite SV episodes? Memoria, Shattered and I really couldn't love Aqua anymore than I do. (*is still giggling*)
6. What SV story do you reread most often? Um...I have no idea. I will try and discern the answer today!
7. Random facts: My favourite food is chicken, ginger and spring onion from the takeaway down the road. Or maybe Zinger Tower Burgers from KFC. Right now i'm wearing my jeans with the knees that wore out (they're not stylish, they're just old and torn) and my favourite Superman tshirt. I have my cool stripy stockings on under my jeans so my little knees don't get cold, I look pretty awesome.

I'll pimp this out on my journal when I post later on, I think there's quite a few newbies about atm.

[identity profile] norwich36.livejournal.com 2006-05-25 08:59 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, for number 6, I meant fanfic story.

Himalayan food, like Tibetan and Nepalese? I love that too, or at least when I can get vegetarian versions of it.

Oh, btw, I *finally* have had a chance to start watching those BSG eps you sent me, and I'm in heaven. I think I've watched half the season this week!

Using my Lana icon just for you.

[identity profile] norwich36.livejournal.com 2006-05-25 09:03 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, please do pimp! And yeah, I want lurkers and non-lurkers, so we can conversate (and other made-up verbs).

You're definitely awesome. And have introduced me to my two favorite words, ever: yayity and woeity. (Did you make those up?)

Right now I'm in my underwear, since I'm about to go to bed. (Is that TMI?)

P.S. Your icon is AWESOME, DUDE!

1. Tell us something about yourself: My name is Kate, my birthday is on september 11 and I'm turning 30 this year.
2. Likes (characters, ships, genres, TV shows, actors, real life stuff): I am completely and utterly obsessed with Clex. They consume me in ways bordering on unhealthy. I'm monofannish, and it's all about Smallville. I am a *fan* of other shows (Prison Break, House, Alias, BSG, The L Word etc) but only *fannish* about SV. I love porn. I love Clark and Lex. I love Tom Welling, Michael Rosenbaum, Wentworth Miller and the SPN boys. I love things that make me laugh. I love things that turn me on. I love making other people laugh. I love turning other people on. I love livejournal.
3. Dislikes (characters, ships, genres, TV shows, actors, real life stuff): Bad writing. SGA (not that I've seen it but still. GEEKS IN SPACE WHO AREN'T EVEN HOT.) The following ships: Clana, Lex/Lionel, Sam/Dean. Unfunny people who think they're funny. Relentless negativity. AlMiles.
4. What got you interested in Smallville? Jenn's fanfic. I think I started with Sleep While You Drive and the rest is history.
5. What are your favorite SV episodes? Heat, Red, Onyx, Vessel
6. What SV story do you reread most often? It used to be Deep Throat, by Te, although I haven't read it in ages. For a long time that was my favourite fic though.
7. Random facts: I have dark hair and pale skin and I'm allergic to all fake tan. I drink and smoke way too much. I have a deep speaking voice and a great singing voice. I am pretty much exactly the same in person as I am online.

[identity profile] norwich36.livejournal.com 2006-05-25 09:27 am (UTC)(link)
I was thinking that sometime in the future we should start a meme where we all do voice posts, because I'd love to hear everybody's speaking voice.

Could you explain to me the origin of ceiling cat?

This is the origin of Ceiling Cat: http://www.ceilingcat.com/

Possibly the greatest website I've ever seen and one that I will never not find amusing. I just HAD to make an icon of it.

And yes, one day I might do a voice post. It's always kinda weird hearing people's speaking voices. I'm always surpised how American you all sound. *g*

I can't believe you lurked for so long. You are NECESSARY IN LIFE. I'm so pleased you stopped lurking because you make SV fandom a better place to be. I don't think you get told that enough.

Basically, we all love you. ♥

I also think you're awesome. But you already knew that.

You know, I might hang out in this thread all day.

::Blushing as only Clark in bad fiction does, all the way down to my toes::

You are very, very sweet to say that. Seriously, my social phobia is of epic proportions, so it took a lot to drive me out of lurkerdom, and some days I still feel an urge to go hide under my bed, so I really appreciate hearing that.

::Hugs::

Thanks! And now, since it is almost 3 a.m. here, I should really go to bed.

Wee! This looks fun!

1. Me: 21 years old. Biology student. Soon-to-be college-graduate. Kind of a newbie to fandom, I stumbled upon it when I rediscovered SV less than a year ago.
2. Likes: Fannishly, I like Lexana/Clex/Clois/Chlex (multi-shipping rules), making icons, and writing fanfic. SV fandom may consume me, but House is my favorite show. Random things I love are public art, coffee shops, chai, garlic naan, shoes (I have 60+ pairs. They are my weakness.), outdoor markets, camping, and road trips. I love random acts of kindness and smiling at strangers, as it seems that too many people are walking around with sticks up their bums.
3. Dislikes: Loud eating, wasabi, small spaces, skinny jeans, ugg boots, grape-flavoured anything, music snobs, flying (even though I love to travel), negative folk, and Kristom shipping.
4. What got you interested in Smallville? I've always been into superhero stories. Batman (with Adam West) was a childhood fave, and Batman was the first movie I ever saw in a theater. I liked Superman as well. Saw the movies as a wee one and then LnC when I got older. So when SV came on, I was naturally and instantly intrigued.
5. What are your favorite SV episodes? Pilot, Shattered, Memoria, Onyx, Splinter, Lexmas. Too many to list.
6. What SV story do you reread most often? Anything by Zannie (http://www.zannie.net). More specifically, her story 'Attachments (http://www.zannie.net/smallville/attachments.php)', the first piece of fanfic I ever read, and a good one at that.
7. Random facts: I shot down a guy last week, but rather than feel guilty, I felt ridiculously good (for the first time ever). Currently on rotation in my CD player is Duran Duran's Greatest. I am procrastinating at this very moment. My name is not Maile Rose.

[identity profile] sadface.livejournal.com 2006-05-25 10:42 am (UTC)(link)
For my 'encourage a lurker to post thing' I want to try and explain how being in fandom CHANGED MY LIFE without sounding like a complete lunatic, think I can pull that off?
ext_2583: "Lady Agnew" by John Singer Sargent (One Tree Hill barely even incest)

[identity profile] mskatej.livejournal.com 2006-05-25 10:43 am (UTC)(link)
I HATE SKINNY JEANS.

Omg. Just, the WORST FASHION EVER. No one. NO ONE looks good in them. I have several friends who succumbed and bought pairs, and, no matter how thin they are, they still look like CRAP. They make people's legs look short! Who the fuck wants that?

I feel very strongly about this fyi.

Duran Duran huh? DUDE. *dances*

[identity profile] sadface.livejournal.com 2006-05-25 10:45 am (UTC)(link)
I can't even remember how they got started, I think [livejournal.com profile] nehellania started yayity, which I decided to change the spelling of and then woeity was because really, im all about the woe. *g*

Of course you can. You can run it by me first if you're worried, but I have total faith in you not to sound *completely* insane. Maybe not total faith. Some faith.

[identity profile] sadface.livejournal.com 2006-05-25 10:51 am (UTC)(link)
Oooh you appreciate it! I'll tell you too.

In fact, you were one of the people that we talked about the total awesomeness of when Boppy, Kate and I, all met up. See? Totally awesome. *nods*

[identity profile] suzycat.livejournal.com 2006-05-25 11:00 am (UTC)(link)
1. Tell us something about yourself: I'm Suzycat, I live in New Zealand, I'm 41. Nearly 42 in fact. Gasp. I'm a journalist.
2. Likes (characters, ships, genres, TV shows, actors, real life stuff): Lex, Lex, Lex, Clark and Lex in that order. I ship Clex. I'm not really active in the fandom any more, but SV is my one and only and Clex my OTP, though I like Chlark, hetwise, on the show. I like Lex/Lionel (so long as it is sick, dirty and wrong, not lovey woo wah), nasty!fuckedup!Clex with wrong!sick!sex, and I secretly believe in MR/JG as an RPS pairing. Genrewise, I'm not hugely into your actual genre programming as a rule. I like The Sopranos (it's on telly right this second), Oz (LOVE), cheesy glitzy shows, dark moody shows, obscure 70s kids' shows that I grew up with, and heaps and heaps of other TV but not in an actively fannish way. RL stuff: I like coffee, cats, belly dancing, day dreaming, pretending to be an academic...
3. Dislikes (characters, ships, genres, TV shows, actors, real life stuff): Lana. I don't hate her, I just wish she would go away and find herself. I dislike Clana, tolerate Lexana as a clear example of displaced desire on the part of both parties (because it makes Lana vaguely interesting), and think Lois is all very well but she should NOT BE ON THE SHOW. Ooh! I powerfully dislike uke!Lex. Lex is a TOP. Genres I dislike: faux Celtic/mystykal crap. (I always watch, you understand, to spork.) Shows: I don't get the attraction of TAR. I think people fancying Jonathon Rhys Meyers is sick and wrong. I hate gum passionately.
4. What got you interested in Smallville? TWoP. I used to hang about there a lot in the early days of the show and RPed Lex for GOD about four centuries on the Anvil thread.
5. What are your favorite SV episodes? Pilot, Jitters, Craving (sue me), Shimmer, Heat, Lineage, Prodigal, Shattered, Memoria.
6. What SV story do you reread most often? Three Impossible Things.
7. Random facts: It's winter where I am. I am a slob. My cats are not named Clark and Lex but they *might as well be* for the way they act around each other.

I'm rereading Three Impossible Things at the moment! It's one of my favourite ever SV stories. SIGH.

[identity profile] sadface.livejournal.com 2006-05-25 11:08 am (UTC)(link)
My plants are called Clark and Lex, but they don't really have any feelings towards each other. Because they are cacti and not really sentient.

[identity profile] theclexfactor.livejournal.com 2006-05-25 11:12 am (UTC)(link)
1. I have two tattoos. I have three siblings (two are blood, one is adopted)
2. Likes: Clark, Lex (SV), Cordelia (Buffy, Angel), Clex, Angel/Cordelia, Wesley/Faith, Smallville, BtVS, Angel, Denzel Washington (as an actor), and I LOVE ribs and macaroni and cheese
3. Dislikes: Lana (with a fiery passion), Clana, Lexana, I'm PETRIFIED of snakes and ventriloquist dolls
4. Clark and Lex, and my love of all things Superman and DC
5. Rosetta, Transferrence, Shattered, Asylum, Heat, Red, Stray, Ryan
6. Identical Series (Lanning Cook), Two Halves and Two Voices (Dolimir), Sleep While I Drive (Seperis)
7. I drew my icon. If I were a billionaire, I would alternate between Miami (hometown) and NYC (because I'm an artist and that is, like, the American epicenter of the arts.)

[identity profile] theclexfactor.livejournal.com 2006-05-25 11:13 am (UTC)(link)
I was going to put that, but I already put three under my list. That fic is frickin awesome

[identity profile] frelling-tralk.livejournal.com 2006-05-25 11:15 am (UTC)(link)
1. Tell us something about yourself: I'm 24 (eek!) Just turned 24 recently, and still recovering over being an actual grown-up. I become active (of a sort) in SV fandom from the beginning of season 3. I lurked during some of season 2.
2. Likes (characters, ships, genres, TV shows, actors, real life stuff): Clex, Chlark, and Lexana for SV. And yes season 5 is one of my favourite seasons *g* Also season 3. Beecher/Keller from Oz, Nine/Rose from Doctor Who. Mashed potato. Spike. Buffy. Spuffy
3. Dislikes (characters, ships, genres, TV shows, actors, real life stuff): Riley and Kennedy from Buffy. Lois from Smallville
4. What got you interested in Smallville? Well I was reading SFX, and there was an interview with AL looking over season 1 episodes. I found his description of Lex in Jitters interesting. So I went on-line and read a ton of Clex fan fic, I also stumbled across some Luthercest fic *ahem*, forever warping my impressions of the show. I then started watching the show convinced that Lionel had abused Lex in the past, and that some past episode must confirm it *scratches head*
5. What are your favorite SV episodes? Pilot, Lineage, Shattered, Asylum, Memoria, Transference, Onyx, Splinter. And all the ones I'm forgetting
6. What SV fanfic do you reread most often? Probably A Handful Of Dust by Jenn.
7. Random facts (favorite food, color you wouldn't be caught dead wearing, pets' names, number of pairs of shoes you own, where you would live if you were a billionaire, etc.) I need to brush my hair right now. I don't like AOL so much, it won't let me close my main AOL page and go with internet explorer, without signing me off. My dog (we'll call her Ms T for security purposes) is currently chewing my foot and snorting.
