Come to the SV social

"I would like to extend to you an invitation to the pants party. The party with the...with the pants. The party with pants."
"Brick, are you saying there's a party in your pants and I'm invited?" (Anchorman)

No, actually the party is in the comments of this entry! Come and join the fun and meet new people in SV fandom. I would especially like to encourage you quiet folks lurking in the back--even those of you without livejournals of your own--to drop by and introduce yourselves. We're all a pretty friendly bunch here, and we like to make new friends. Fandom is more fun when you get involved and meet people, so why don't you stop by and say hi?

Here's a little mini-questionnaire, almost completely stolen from [livejournal.com profile] svmadelyn's glee week social, in case you need a conversation starter, but feel free to answer as many or as few questions as you are interested in answering:

1. Tell us something about yourself:
2. Likes (characters, ships, genres, TV shows, actors, real life stuff):
3. Dislikes (characters, ships, genres, TV shows, actors, real life stuff) :
4. What got you interested in Smallville?
5. What are your favorite SV episodes?
6. What SV fanfic do you reread most often?
7. Random facts (favorite food, color you wouldn't be caught dead wearing, pets' names, number of pairs of shoes you own, where you would live if you were a billionaire, etc.)

Happy delurking day! Come join the party!

Have you ever read (or written) Highlander fic? I ask because the last time I was actually fannishly active (rather than just lurker) was in the late 90s, and I spent a whole month one summer researching ancient Sumerian religion because I had a hankering to write a Methos fic with lots of flashbacks to that period. It never actually happened (the story, I mean), but I now always associate Sumeria with Highlander.

Oh, the random facts you pick up from fandom! Just about everything I know about the Arctic and the Inuit I picked up from Due South, for example.

I never wear jewelry unless I am specifically "dressing up," but I always admire people who do.

I have read some HL fic, and seen some of the show, but only a little. I'd be interested in seeing more, I just haven't done so yet.

I studied comparative religion and the philosophy of science in college, and did my thesis on Sumerian religion. I find it really interesting, but it's impossible to really be an expert without being able to read everything in the original, and I can't do that.

[excessively geeky comment]The word Sumeria is actually one of my pet peeves. Their own word for their area was Ki-en-gir, which basically means something like "our great civilized land" and they often called themselves "the black-headed ones" in texts. It was the Akkadians who called the southern part of Mesopotamia Shuber or Shumer. So flashforward to more recent times, when archaeologists rediscover the culture, and it gets romanized as Sumer, and, well, the process of decoding the languages took a while, thus the change from things like Agade and Erech to Akkad and Uruk in modern references. So while technically Sumeria isn't much more incorrect than Sumer, it always reminds me of tacky websites about how the Sumerian gods were aliens from the tenth planet or something, and I hiss when I see it in newspaper articles. Although, the worst was when I saw the Epic of Gilgamesh refered to as a Sumerian myth about how some guy survived a big flood. Oh man, seriously, everything in that sentence is incorrect.[/excessively geeky comment]
