Heroes
I would love to say something deep and insightful about tonight's Heroes, but really I'm just all about the squee. And if somebody knows of a place to snag Heroes screencaps, let me know, would you? I want to make some icons.
You know, it took me a while to warm up to Claire, but now I'm completely in love with her. God. Just that image of her *literally* pulling herself together on the autopsy table was just so ::flails arms wildly at my inability to express how awesome that scene was:: And then having to walk home barefoot and pretend that everything is normal, and try to fake out her dad, and go to school, and ::flailing again:: And like
latxcvi said in a discussion on Claire at
rivkat's journal, how great was it that she decided to go for revenge on that guy in large part because she realized he was victimizing other women? Oh, Claire, you are completely made of awesome.
And someone else I suddenly thought was made of awesome tonight was Nikki's alter-ego, because DAMN. The heel to the neck! Don't threaten our son! The immensely, unbelievably hot seduction scene! Oh, alter-ego, you're the one who gets things done and lets Nikki keep her conscience! I have to love you for that, even if you are a scary murdering psycho.
And Hiro! Words cannot express how hot I found Future-Hiro, looking so tough and sounding so hot. I like sweet geeky Hiro a lot--well, more than words can express, actually--but it's kind of fun that he gets an alter-ego, too, in the form of sexy hot future actionhero self. But meanwhile, I am really enjoying Hiro's adventures with Ando (where is the slash, people? WHERE IS THE SLASH? Someone must be writing it be now!!) and the comic possibilities of Ando being the only one of the two that speaks English. That scene in the alley with the poker dude was hilarious.
I'm not nearly as taken with the other storylines (except Greg Grunberg's character! Ack! Don't wipe his brain! NO!), but I'm very happy to see them start to intersect more. For example, the politician alternately bored or annoyed me, but it was very interesting to see him interacting with Nikki's character--it definitely humanized him for me. And the intersection of all the pretty boys was nice (though I continue to think that if Mohinder wasn't the most beautiful man in world history, his character would drive me nuts with all the bad dialogue they give him), and I like where they're going in terms of plot development; I suspect I may grow to care about the artist and the nurse and Mohinder more, because they're doing a good job with the slow development of characters and increasingly complicated plots, so I'm happy to go along for the ride, even though I don't necessarily care about the other characters. (To the point, obviously, that I can't remember their names!)
So does anyone think we've seen Syler yet? I don't think he's the black guy who can block thoughts (I think that's Nikki's husband), and I don't think it's Claire's dad, either (though he seems to form a sort of double for Syler, who also steals people's powers, less by eating their brains, which I somehow assume Syler is doing even though I'm unspoiled) and more by some sort of technologically-advanced government stuff. If Syler is someone we've seen already, my vote is Mohinder's pixy-ish neighbor, but I don't know that I have fully formulated theories yet.
Oh, I love this show. Yay! It's been a long time since I've been this excited about a new show, and I've even convinced two friends in RL to start watching through strategic loaning of tapes, too.

It would really creep me out if Syler was really that innocent-looking meek lady hanging out with Mohinder. Holy crap, to imagine that meek little person impaling people with wanton abandon...I love how disturbing this show is but still very funny and hopeful at the necesary junctures.

I wish I hadn't loaned out my tapes of the first few episodes, because I'd have to go watch those scenes with Syler trying to kidnap the girl again and see if time-wise it was possible for Syler to be the pixie lady (who is *way* too innocent to really be innocent--even if she's not Syler I'm sure she has some sinister agenda).

I need a Claire icon, dammit!

I *loved* Ikin (that's what the TWoP folks are calling Niki's Ebil Double) threatening death by stiletto. There really *wasn't* quite anything as cool as that in the whole hour, although Claire and future!Hiro were really, really, *really* close seconds.
"Niki isn't here right now." *flails*
Excellent point about the symbolism of Claire *literally* putting herself back together at the beginning. 'Cause that was her emotional arc throughout the rest of the story -- pulling herself together, eventually doing what she felt needed to be done/wanted to do to get back at the quarterback.
Save the cheerleader. Save the world. *flails some more*
And oh, future!Hiro. So grown-up, so centered, so *radiating power*. And I really love how I can see where *that* Hiro comes from current!Hiro; it wasn't jarring in any sort of way that made me feel it wasn't possible that this is the *hero* that Hiro could grow to be. So. Much. Love.
"You look different without your scar." *flails even more like a flaily thing*
And yes, yes, yes! Hiro/Ando totally for the win! How awesome was the Rainman shout-out? Even if I didn't already love Ando, I think I would have to love him now 'cause his idea of a good costume *is a suit*!

See, I think he is, just going by the Mystery Genre's Economy of Characters (since I do think Heroes is part-mystery): the killer is always someone introduced to the audience fairly early on. If Sylar is not also Claire's dad *or* any of our actual protagonists, then that leaves unsettingly attractive, thought-blocking black guy as Sylar. And it's entirely possible that one of the potential Big Reveals (this is pure, unspoiler-based spec on my part) is that Sylar, if that's really him, has his own agenda separate from Claire's dad despite the fact that they're clearly working together when it comes to finding out what our protagonists are capable of.
"Only take the one." *flails entirely out of my chair*
Then again, I'm totally cool with being wrong, wrong, wrong about us not having yet met Sylar. Right now, I'm totally willing to go wherever Heroes wants to take me!

I'm glad I'm not the only one flailing a lot (because I am, literally, flailing a lot--I look like a giant floppy fish, I swear).

Hmm, you're right about the economy of characters thing, though of course that may also mean he's one of the actual protagonists rather than thought-blocking guy. But I guess thought-blocking guy is probably the logical suspect, and it would be very interesting if he had his own separate agenda. Like, maybe Claire's dad thinks he's controlling Sylar when he's actually being controlled.

Yes, and which one is it going to be? That's killing me! Just like the Hiro reveal--I had stopped watching the clock at that point and didn't realize we were at the end of the show already. I literally screamed when the credits rolled. This show does cliff-hangers really well!
And I'm with you--I'm totally happy to take this roller coaster wherever it's going, because it's a lot of fun.

Yup, she gets my vote too. If only because she needs to be redeemed in SOME way in my eyes! ;-)
This was a great ep with the girls kicking ass. I'm going to write my own review shortly, so I'll cut that conv. short to avoid repetition.
But yes, it WAS wonderful to see Hiro's hero-self. A few other people have helped me gain some perspective on him, and he's slowly suckering me in. I supsect there will be far more than just comic relief to his character. It's very interesting to compare his way of dealing with his powers to other characters.
