Come to the SV social

"I would like to extend to you an invitation to the pants party. The party with the...with the pants. The party with pants."
"Brick, are you saying there's a party in your pants and I'm invited?" (Anchorman)

No, actually the party is in the comments of this entry! Come and join the fun and meet new people in SV fandom. I would especially like to encourage you quiet folks lurking in the back--even those of you without livejournals of your own--to drop by and introduce yourselves. We're all a pretty friendly bunch here, and we like to make new friends. Fandom is more fun when you get involved and meet people, so why don't you stop by and say hi?

Here's a little mini-questionnaire, almost completely stolen from [livejournal.com profile] svmadelyn's glee week social, in case you need a conversation starter, but feel free to answer as many or as few questions as you are interested in answering:

1. Tell us something about yourself:
2. Likes (characters, ships, genres, TV shows, actors, real life stuff):
3. Dislikes (characters, ships, genres, TV shows, actors, real life stuff) :
4. What got you interested in Smallville?
5. What are your favorite SV episodes?
6. What SV fanfic do you reread most often?
7. Random facts (favorite food, color you wouldn't be caught dead wearing, pets' names, number of pairs of shoes you own, where you would live if you were a billionaire, etc.)

Happy delurking day! Come join the party!

Wow. You win at this party for including a footnote in your entry! *stands in awe*

And fascinatingly you like my favourite (sauv blanc) and least favourite (pinot noir) varieties of wine... intriguing! (if random)

Your cat informaton slightly terrifies me. Personally, I have a desexed male who's the girliest thing you've ever seen. He has a very high pitched miaow and I'm constantly having to correct guests on his sex.

[identity profile] bop-radar.livejournal.com 2006-05-28 01:55 am (UTC)(link)
*g* I missed you the other day... (and I miss you generally)

[identity profile] bop-radar.livejournal.com 2006-05-28 01:59 am (UTC)(link)
I have seen way too much hate directed at female characters in SV that has me dismayed because I like the female characters.
I'll second that. And it dismays me most of all because most of us are women ourselves. I don't like that bitchy backlash-against-female-characters aspect to the slash fandoms. And noone should ever rain on some else's reason for liking the show. Personally I've found it fascinating to read everyone's different angles and ways they got in to SV... diversity is good!

And hey, if I lived in NY, I'm sure I'd stay there too!

hey, congrats on delurking! *g* It's good to see new peeps around.

Cute entrance!

I like Clark better this season than I ever have before.
Ditto! *g* I've been really convinced by his emotional growth this season, as never before. Looks like we've had opposite journeys with Lana though--I started out hating her, but really like her now.

ECT--yeah, that's a legit phobia to have. And I think Asylum is intense for everyone. I still think of it as the worst thing that ever happened to Lex, and I get grr-y when people forget about it as a contributing factor to his decline/rise to evil. And btw, don't ever watch Requiem for a dream.

Oh, I love that funeral scene so much! And you're a latecomer like me. *g* I caught up in time to watch S5 with everyone too.

Have you read any of [livejournal.com profile] rivkat's stuff? www.rivkat.com I'd rec a particular piece, but I'm not sure if you'd prefer serious/dark or humorous?

[identity profile] bop-radar.livejournal.com 2006-05-28 02:14 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, Clois fan! *glomps*
I want to see them develop that bond that will one day make them soul mates but not lose all the snaky attitude because that‘s what makes them so fun to watch.
Oh, yes! That's exactly what I'd like to see too. I like the little glimmers of fondness we've had--like when Clark looked sad for a moment when Lois moved out. I'm quite happy with them just remaining friends too--I appreciate that pushing them too far along the path to coupledom would throw the show out of kilter with its original premise. But I do love Erica as Lois--she brought a real spark to the show in S4 for me.

Oh, chocolate... how I do long for it right now. *is on a diet and PMS-y*

Perry! True! No one ever remembers that ep... It was really great. Thanks for reminding me! *g*

I definitely want to check out your Clark/Lex fanmix... I have so much to catch up on on LJ!

How much does it take to make a movie these days? Can we get a fairly cheap one for a couple thousand? I bet people could raise that if we tried. I mean, how much would these guys charge to be filmed making out for ten minutes?

Especially when I'm writing him and trying to make him be normal instead of a dick.

Ohhhh yes. I have a much harder time getting into Clark's head than Lex's.

Yes, some vids I like for the technique, some have content that shines through even if it's a little rough. That one definitely works well enough.

It's all about Lex, Clex and Luthors for me.

Damn straight. I'm like, la la whatever Lana is whining again, STFU Jonathan, awww Chloe, LEX LEX LEX. Basically.

Yeah, I feel that I really messed myself over without realizing it with some of my earlier choices. I'm just trying to make sure that it's not a total messing up, and I think hopefully it'll get sorted out eventually.

I'm always interested in hearing more, if you want to email me about it, but no pressure.

I have read some HL fic, and seen some of the show, but only a little. I'd be interested in seeing more, I just haven't done so yet.

I studied comparative religion and the philosophy of science in college, and did my thesis on Sumerian religion. I find it really interesting, but it's impossible to really be an expert without being able to read everything in the original, and I can't do that.

[excessively geeky comment]The word Sumeria is actually one of my pet peeves. Their own word for their area was Ki-en-gir, which basically means something like "our great civilized land" and they often called themselves "the black-headed ones" in texts. It was the Akkadians who called the southern part of Mesopotamia Shuber or Shumer. So flashforward to more recent times, when archaeologists rediscover the culture, and it gets romanized as Sumer, and, well, the process of decoding the languages took a while, thus the change from things like Agade and Erech to Akkad and Uruk in modern references. So while technically Sumeria isn't much more incorrect than Sumer, it always reminds me of tacky websites about how the Sumerian gods were aliens from the tenth planet or something, and I hiss when I see it in newspaper articles. Although, the worst was when I saw the Epic of Gilgamesh refered to as a Sumerian myth about how some guy survived a big flood. Oh man, seriously, everything in that sentence is incorrect.[/excessively geeky comment]

I agree with "pretty much anyone named Jack." :D Mind if I friend you?

[identity profile] reneec.livejournal.com 2006-05-28 03:02 am (UTC)(link)
I love when they show them getting along and progressing their friendship like the end of Fade and Oracle. It's nice to see another Lois fan too. I think Erica does a great job with what they give her. I hope she gets even better material next year.

I love reading your reviews of the eps, btw. I've never commented (bad me) but you give such insight and I love how you draw the parallels between the character and the themes of the show. You make me see things I might have missed or think about things in a way I hadn't before.

I was in India when I was 11. My parents worked at an international school there for six months. We were in Kodaikanal, Tamil Nadu. So it was rather a while ago. I hear the town has a gotten a lot more built up since then, and I bet if I actually went back there, it would be so different. We were also in Mahabalipuram for a bit, and I think Delhi. I'm not entirely sure, since I was a kid and so wasn't always paying attention.

[identity profile] tehjules.livejournal.com 2006-05-28 03:06 am (UTC)(link)
Not at all! I'll do the same, we have some excellent common interests. And yeah, mutual Jack love. :D

Yay! It would seem a little random, but why not? ...And he did write a Superman story once, and work for DC, so I guess that's a connection.

Dislikes: Hot and humid weather. Rudeness and stupidity. Mornings.

I totally agree on all those. Especially mornings.

Going to check out your fanmix now!

That does make sense. I was telling my sister recently how I was unable to read 1st person just now, and then we spent a while discussing a really well-done 1st person series. I think the thing is that to work well, it needs a really clear character voice. And I've been reading a bunch of fanfic, and most people can't pull off that much constant character voice to do good 1st person fanfic. But even the original stuff I've looked at lately in 1st person, I'm just like, "Do I have to listen to this one character telling me everything? Whyyyy?" But it's something I've only recently noticed, so it's probably just a temporary mood.
