Another rec
Sep. 12th, 2006 04:31 pmWow, this is a great week for new Smallville fiction. Run, do not walk, to read
kantayra's The Comfort of Adversity.
It's a long, plotty Clex futurefic, a semi-crossover with the DC universe since it features Conner (you know, the kid cloned from Lex and Clark's DNA), but the characterization is Smallville. It seems like I've read a lot of great stories by
rageprufrock,
astolat,
happyminion, and probably by some other authors I am forgetting, in which the existence of Conner is the impetus for Clark and Lex to reconcile, but this is one of the first ones I've seen that really takes into account the philosophical differences between Clark and Lex, and recognizes that true love doesn't necessarily conquer these differences. Her Clark and Conner characterizations are excellent, but what I am most in love with about this story is her Lex characterization: he's brilliant and funny and sarcastic and self-aware, and oh yes, truly Superman's adversary. And he and Clark don't stop being adversaries just because they're in love, so will they be able to maintain a relationship?
