I've gotten out of the habit of posting recs, lately, because I've been emailing them to
rsadelle instead. But she's recently gotten sucked into bandom (and is trying--probably unsuccessfully--to pull me in, too), so maybe I will be better about posting here instead.
So have three SPN stories that have recently knocked my socks off. They all deal with events in the aftermath of the season 4 finale, in somewhat different ways:
rivkat's Better Angels, in which the newly risen Lucifer needs a host, but it's not who you might predict. To give away all the pairings in this story would give away a big part of the plot, but there's definitely Sam/Dean and some Dean/Castiel overtones.
pandarus's Carrion Comfort also deals with the rise of Lucifer, and in addition to having some unbelievably hot Sam/Dean action, it has a really interesting perspective on where Lucifer's been hiding all these years.
And finally,
kroki_refur posted the first bigbang of the summer, I've Seen the future, brother (and it is murder), which is not surprisingly AU from the actual finale (since stories were due almost a month before it) but it still addresses the core issue: Dean is given a choice between Sam or the apocalypse, and when his choice goes badly wrong, he has a chance to go back and fix things, but can he? Or will all choices just lead to the same ending? This is gen, but extremely compelling, and the time travel stuff is marvellously done.
